Fowler Test KA450

This test is only relevant if the hearing loss is either unilateral or clearly different on one side.

To switch to Fowler test mode, press the "Program selection" button (22) repeatedly until the "Fowler" indicator (19) lights up.

To carry out the test, first select a frequency at which the hearing curve differs by at least 30 dB between the right and left ear. This is marked on the audiogram form by a circle around the frequency on the side of the worse ear.

First increase the volume at the worse ear by 20 dB compared to the hearing threshold. Mark this level at the current frequency. Now slowly increase the volume in the better ear until the patient states that they perceive the volume on the right and left as equally loud. This measurement point is entered in the audiogram (on the side of the worse ear one frequency next to the set one) and connected to the previously marked preset volume of the worse ear.

The volume is increased again by 20 dB in the worse ear and is now 40 dB above the threshold. Again, the volume in the better ear is increased until the patient indicates the same subjective volume. The entry in the audiogram is made as described above.

If there is a loudness equalization (positive recruitment), the entered connecting lines are not parallel. If there is no loudness equalization, the lines are parallel.
